A Westin Pittsburgh Wedding | Morgan & Derek

Westin Pittsburgh wedding with bridal party on Clemente bridge.

Morgan and Derek's Westin Pittsburgh wedding was everything a celebration in the city should be: emotional, full of personality, and beautifully unpredictable. From a stunning cathedral ceremony at Saint Boniface to portraits on the Clemente Bridge as the sun broke through after a rain storm, their day unfolded in a way that felt completely and authentically theirs.

We are Josh and Taylor, a husband-and-wife photography and videography team based in Central Pennsylvania, and documenting weddings like this one is exactly why we do what we do. We specialize in capturing the real moments, the ones that happen between the candid portraits and the planned details, and Morgan and Derek's day gave us no shortage of those.

Getting Ready at the Westin Pittsburgh

The morning began in the suites at the Westin, and from the moment we arrived it was clear the day was going to be something special. The suites are generously sized, giving the full bridal party plenty of room to move, get ready, and simply breathe without feeling rushed or crowded. Floor to ceiling windows filled the space with soft, natural light that made detail flat lays and getting ready portraits feel effortless.

Morgan's details were perfectly curated. Every element told a piece of the story before the day even officially began. Flat lays like these are always one of the first things we document because they set the tone for everything that follows.

Before leaving for the church, Morgan shared a first look with her dad. There were no held back tears from either of them. It was one of those unguarded, deeply human moments that reminds us exactly why we do this work. Derek's mom had her own first look moment as well, pure excitement and joy that carried beautifully on film.

There was no first look between Morgan and Derek, which meant the ceremony carried the full weight of that first glimpse. That anticipation is something that simply cannot be recreated.

Saint Boniface Catholic Church Ceremony

The wedding party made their way to the ceremony via Molly's Trolleys, a perfect Pittsburgh touch that kept the energy fun and the logistics seamless. Morgan arrived separately, preserving that moment of anticipation right up until she walked down the aisle.

Saint Boniface is a breathtaking space. The soaring ceilings, the dome, the scale of the architecture commands your attention the moment you walk in. We had been informed ahead of time that flash photography would not be permitted during the ceremony, and we always tell our couples that we can shoot beautifully in any lighting condition. Saint Boniface proved that completely. The available light inside that cathedral gave the ceremony images a warmth and atmosphere that puts you right back in that moment every time you look at the photos.

The ceremony ended with an iconic exit moment, a full dip kiss as Morgan and Derek made their way back down the aisle. It was the perfect punctuation to the ceremony and the kind of moment that stops you mid edit.

Family portraits were completed inside the church while the rain continued outside. And as any seasoned wedding photographer will tell you, rain on your wedding day is good luck!

Portraits Across Downtown Pittsburgh

After family portraits the full wedding party loaded back onto the trolley and headed toward the Clemente Bridge near PNC Park. The rain was still coming down when we arrived, so we started under the bridge with umbrellas, working with the moody, overcast sky. The images from those first few minutes under the bridge have a drama and depth to them that a clear blue sky simply cannot produce.

And then the storm broke!

For a few minutes the sun pushed through, and we moved up onto the Clemente Bridge with the full Pittsburgh skyline behind them. Those are the images that define the day. The light, the city, the relief and joy on everyone's faces after pushing through the rain, it all came together in a way that felt earned.

From the bridge the group made a quick stop at the Pennsylvania Rotunda for a few couple portraits before heading back to the Westin. The rotunda provided a completely different architectural feel, grand and classic, and gave the portrait set a natural variety that tells the full story of their day across Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny Ballroom Reception

The cocktail hour was held in the spacious pre-function area just outside the Allegheny Ballroom at the Westin, plenty of room for 250 guests to move, mingle, and enjoy the celebration without ever feeling crowded. It was the perfect transition from the energy of the day into the warmth of the evening.

The ballroom itself is a dramatic space. No natural light, but the candlelight and warm ambient lighting gave the room a mood that felt intentional and romantic. We brought in external lighting to ensure every moment was captured with clarity while still honoring the atmosphere of the room.

Morgan and Derek made their grand entrance with a quick round of corn hole, because they met at a corn hole tournament, and that detail deserved to be part of their wedding day story. It brought the house down and set the tone for a reception that was genuinely fun from start to finish.

Their first dance included choreographed moments woven into the song, unexpected and perfectly executed for both photo and film. It is the kind of choice that couples do not always think about but makes a significant difference in how the dance looks and feels when you watch it back.

After dinner they cut their cake and then did a photo hop around the entire room so they had at least one photo with every single guest. Two hundred and fifty people! It was joyful and intentional and said everything about who Morgan and Derek are as a couple.

Now we can’t forget the Pittsburgh cookie table, a beloved Central Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh tradition where guests take home an assortment of homemade cookies as their wedding favor. It is one of those details that feels small but means everything to the people in the room.

Their Wedding Film

Photography preserves the still moments, the expressions, the details, the frames that stop time. Film captures everything in between. The sound of vows. The eruption of laughter during the corn hole entrance. The quiet under the bridge before the storm passed.

Morgan and Derek chose both photography and videography, and their wedding film brings their entire day back to life in a way that still photographs simply cannot do alone.

Why We Love a Westin Pittsburgh Wedding

The Westin is a wonderful venue to work in Pittsburgh and it comes down to a few things. The suites are spacious and filled with natural light, ideal for getting ready coverage and detail work. The lobby carries that same quality of light and the architecture gives you something genuinely beautiful to work with for portraits when weather does not cooperate outside. The pre-function space outside the ballroom gives cocktail hour room to breathe, and the ballroom itself responds beautifully to thoughtful lighting. For a large wedding in the heart of Pittsburgh, it is a venue that gives us everything we need to tell the full story of the day.
