If you have ever driven past a barn venue and thought "that is beautiful but is it really my style," Ashley and Isaiah's Grange Valley wedding in Mount Pocono might just change your mind. From the outside it is warm and charming and full of that classic Pennsylvania character. But inside? Elevated decor, a plated filet mignon dinner, and a dance floor that did not empty once all night. This was a barn wedding that felt anything but ordinary.
We're Josh and Taylor, a husband and wife photography and videography team based in Central Pennsylvania, and we'll be honest — we did not meet Ashley and Isaiah in person before their wedding day. No engagement session, no coffee chat beforehand. What we did have was months of thoughtful communication and the clear sense that these two had approached every single part of their wedding planning with real intention. By the time we pulled into Grange Valley that May morning we felt like we already knew them.
Getting Ready at Grange Valley
One of the things we love about Grange Valley as a venue is how well it sets up the beginning of a wedding day. Both partners got ready in separate suites on the property, each within easy walking distance of the ceremony space and reception hall. No shuttles, no rushing across town, no worrying about accidentally crossing paths too early. Just a relaxed, unhurried morning exactly where everything else was going to happen.
We moved between both suites capturing details and getting ready portraits, and honestly the intentionality Ashley and Isaiah brought to their planning was visible everywhere. Nothing felt random or last minute. Every detail had clearly been thought through, and that kind of care makes our job so much more meaningful.
A First Look and Letter Exchange
We need to talk about this moment.
Before the ceremony Ashley and Isaiah shared a private first look on the Grange Valley property. But rather than simply seeing each other for the first time, they had each written letters — real, heartfelt letters — expressing everything they were feeling on the morning of their wedding day. They read them aloud to each other in that quiet space before anything else began.
We have photographed a lot of first looks. A lot. And the ones where couples bring letters or private vows hit differently every single time. There is something about the privacy of it, just the two of them and their words, that allows couples to be completely present with each other in a way that is hard to replicate anywhere else. The emotion in that moment was real and unhurried and we were so glad we were there to capture it.
After the first look we moved through couple portraits around the property, bridal party photos, and immediate family formals. Having everything done before the ceremony meant no rushing, no squeezing portraits into a tight cocktail hour window, and a genuinely relaxed pace for everyone involved. If you are on the fence about a first look, this is your sign.
Detail Photos in the Untouched Reception Space
With portraits wrapped Ashley and Isaiah did something we love to see — they took a break. Water, snacks, a quiet moment to breathe before the ceremony began. Meanwhile we headed straight to the reception space.
Getting into the reception hall before guests arrive is something we always try to plan for on wedding days, and at Grange Valley it was particularly special. Ashley and Isaiah had put so much thought and care into every detail of that room, and the only way to truly honor that effort is to photograph it before anyone touches it. Untouched centerpieces, perfectly placed place settings, florals that nobody has brushed past yet. That version of the reception space only exists for a few minutes and we were not going to miss it.
The barn interior had been transformed into something genuinely elevated. Warm, romantic, and refined in a way that felt completely personal to them. Those detail images are always among the ones couples come back to most, and it is easy to see why.
An Outdoor Ceremony in the May Sunshine
The ceremony took place outdoors under the open May sky and it was stunning. Sunny, warm, and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Grange Valley property with that gorgeous pond nearby — it was the kind of setting that makes you feel lucky to be there with a camera.
Ashley and Isaiah wrote their own personal vows and standing in front of the people they loved most, speaking words they had written specifically for each other, the ceremony had a depth and intimacy that filled the entire outdoor space. It was emotional in the best possible way. Personal vows always are.
After the ceremony we wrapped up extended family portraits, grabbed a few just married portraits while the excitement was still written all over their faces, and then sent them off to cocktail hour. They had earned that moment to simply be present with their guests and soak it all in.
A Reception Nobody Wanted to Leave
We have said it before and we will say it again, a genuinely full dance floor from start to finish is one of the most joyful things we get to witness on a wedding day. Ashley and Isaiah's reception was exactly that.
From the moment they made their grand entrance the energy in that barn was electric. Their first dance was personal and connected and every person in that room felt it. Dinner followed with a plated filet mignon service that matched every other elevated detail of the evening perfectly. After cake cutting the dance floor opened and it stayed packed. Not kind of packed. Fully, completely, everyone on their feet packed.
And then came the t-shirt toss.
We did not see that one coming and honestly it was one of the highlights of our entire season. The crowd absolutely lost it. The kind of spontaneous joyful moment that you cannot plan for and cannot recreate — you can only be ready for it when it happens. We were ready.
Why We Love a Grange Valley Wedding
Grange Valley in Mount Pocono is one of those venues that gives you everything. The warmth and character of a barn setting with enough flexibility to make it feel as elevated or as relaxed as you want it to be. The outdoor ceremony space is beautiful, the pond on the property adds a natural drama to portraits that is hard to replicate, and the lush May greenery gave us incredible backdrops throughout the entire day.
We also love how well the venue is laid out for a wedding day flow. Getting ready suites close to everything, ceremony and reception in the same location, and enough varied landscape around the property to keep a portrait gallery feeling fresh from section to section. It is a venue that makes our job easier and our couples' days feel seamlessly connected from morning to night.
For Pennsylvania couples who want a barn venue that can surprise you with how beautiful and elevated it can feel, Grange Valley is absolutely worth considering!
