Best Engagement Photo Locations in Central PA
Finding the right engagement photo locations in Central PA is one of the most exciting parts of planning your session, and honestly one of the questions we get asked most. We are Josh and Taylor, a husband and wife photography and videography team based in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and we have photographed engagement sessions across Central PA for years. These are the locations we know best, love most, and keep coming back to with our couples because they consistently produce something beautiful and personal.
The right location depends on your vision, your style as a couple, and the time of year you are planning. We always talk through these details with every couple before their session so the location feels like a natural extension of who you are rather than just a pretty backdrop. Here are some of our favorites!
Mount Assisi Gardens — Loretto, PA
Mount Assisi Gardens is our personal favorite and the location we recommend most often to couples looking for something romantic, unique, and a little unexpected for Central PA. The grounds surrounding the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Loretto are stunning, with manicured gardens, stone pathways, open lawns, and architectural details that give your photos a refined, almost European feel.
Taylor attended Saint Francis University and spent years walking these grounds, so we know every corner of this property intimately. That familiarity means we are never wandering around figuring out where to go. We arrive with a plan and move through the session with purpose, making the most of every photo opportunity the gardens offer.
Spring and summer bring blooming flowers and lush greenery that add incredible color and softness to portraits. Early fall gives you warm golden tones before the leaves fully turn. No matter the season, Mount Assisi Gardens photographs beautifully and gives couples a variety of distinct looks within a single location.
Prince Gallitzin State Park — Patton, PA
Prince Gallitzin State Park sits along the shores of Glendale Lake and offers some of the most naturally stunning engagement photo backdrops in all of Central Pennsylvania. The combination of open water, dense forest, and rolling terrain gives us a lot to work with, and golden hour here is genuinely something special. When the light drops over the lake in the late afternoon it creates a warmth and depth in photos that is hard to replicate anywhere else.
We have photographed sessions here enough times to have found a few secret spots along Glendale Lake that most people walk right past. Those hidden locations give our couples images that feel intimate and personal rather than like everyone else who has ever shot at the park.
Summer is beautiful here for rich greenery and warm light. Fall is spectacular with the foliage reflecting off the water. If your vision is romantic, outdoorsy, and connected to nature, Prince Gallitzin delivers every time.
The Arboretum at Penn State — State College, PA
The Arboretum at Penn State is situated adjacent to the University Park campus in State College and is one of the most beautifully maintained outdoor spaces in Central Pennsylvania. Manicured gardens, open lawns, water features, and diverse plantings give the location a refined and polished feel that suits couples looking for something a little more structured and elegant.
Spring is peak season here when everything is in bloom and the gardens are at their most colorful. Summer keeps the greenery lush and full. The variety of distinct garden spaces within the arboretum means we can create a session that feels like it moves through several different environments while staying in one location.
Bald Eagle State Park — Howard, PA
Bald Eagle State Park is one of the most versatile engagement photo locations in Central PA because of how much variety it offers within a single visit. Mountain views, open meadows, a scenic lake, and wooded trails give us the ability to create a session that moves through completely different feels and backdrops without driving anywhere.
Sunrise at Bald Eagle is particularly stunning. The light over the water and the surrounding ridge line creates a natural drama that elevates portraits in a way that is hard to manufacture anywhere else. Fall is when this park is at its absolute peak, with fiery foliage and warm tones everywhere you look. Summer brings lush greens and long golden evenings that are equally beautiful.
Talleyrand Park — Bellefonte, PA
Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte is one of those locations that surprises couples the first time they see it. The park is filled with giant willow trees that create natural, sweeping canopies perfect for portraits with soft filtered light and a romantic, almost whimsical feel. The variety of settings within the park means we can move through several different looks in a single session without ever feeling repetitive.
Bellefonte itself is a charming historic town with beautiful architecture and a creek running through the property that adds another dimension to the images. If you are looking for an engagement session that feels lush, green, and full of natural texture, Talleyrand Park is one of the best engagement photo locations in Central PA for exactly that.
Late spring and summer are peak season here when the willows are full and the greenery is at its most vibrant.
Treasure Lake Bimini Beach — DuBois, PA
Treasure Lake Bimini Beach in DuBois is a hidden gem for engagement sessions in Central PA and one worth knowing about if you have a connection to the community. The beach setting along the lake gives sessions a relaxed, summery feel that stands apart from the woodland and garden locations on this list.
One important note — Treasure Lake is a private community and access to Bimini Beach requires residency or a connection to a resident. If you or someone in your family lives in the Treasure Lake community this location is absolutely worth considering for your session. The combination of sandy shores, open water, and warm summer light creates a completely unique look for Central PA engagement photos.
Parker Dam State Park — Penfield, PA
Parker Dam State Park has a quieter, more secluded feel than some of the other locations on this list and that is exactly what makes it special. We typically meet our couples near the beach area and move through a few different spots from there, giving the session natural variety without ever feeling rushed or staged.
The towering pine forests filter light in a way that is incredibly flattering for portraits, creating a soft, diffused quality that works beautifully in both summer and winter. If you are a couple who loves the feeling of being tucked away somewhere peaceful and surrounded by nature, Parker Dam is worth serious consideration.
Winter sessions here have a quiet magic to them, especially after a snowfall. Summer and fall both produce warm, rich tones that feel deeply connected to the Central PA landscape.
