How We Got Started with Photography and Videography
Hello there! We are excited that you found this post, and we can’t wait to get to know you! To start off, we thought you should get to know us a little bit!
Together as JTR Media, we are Josh & Taylor. This whole photography and videography adventure started in 2015 when we decided to move to Orlando.
We both grew up in central Pennsylvania where we attended rival high schools. You can call us high school sweethearts. We have now been together for over 15 years and married for 7 years. Our wedding was in May of 2016 and just about a week after our wedding, we found ourselves making a big move to Florida.
Not long after our move to the Orlando area, we found ourselves traveling more. We were always taking A LOT of photos on our iPhones and so we began sharing them on Instagram since this was a great photo-sharing platform. We enjoyed capturing our moments through our iPhone photography but realized we could create even better images with a camera. For Christmas that year we got our first mirrorless camera, the Sony a6000. Josh used to take photos for fun with DSLR cameras, but we were both excited to try out this mirrorless camera.
Around the same time, we began our YouTube Channel showcasing our adventures in the Orlando area and on our other travels. We ended up finding the world of b-roll and fell in love! We discovered a whole new world of storytelling. Not just a caption for a picture, not just a person telling a story through words, but creating a story using video. This is where Josh found his calling. Then, Taylor truly discovered the art of photography. It wasn’t just snapping off photos of landscapes or a cool-looking object anymore. It became about composure. Capturing that perfect moment and freezing it in time. Together, we realized we were meant for photography and videography.
When officially launching our business we wanted to choose a name that had meaning to us, not just some words that had to do with photography or videography. After a lot of thought, we finally determined our name. JTR Media became official in October 2019. J for Josh, T for Taylor, and R for Rippey, our last name, then we decided on Media to encompass the whole art of photography and videography.
We began this business journey to create videos and capture photos for families visiting the Orlando area, but it turned into something much bigger. We have had the opportunity to capture proposals, Disney Fairytale weddings, engagements, family events, and so much more! What started in Orlando has stretched further than we ever expected. We eventually relocated back to Pennsylvania where we continued our journey, and we are now traveling throughout the state of Pennsylvania, Florida, the rest of the United States, and even to other countries!
We never thought in our wildest dreams that we would own our business doing something we love together, but we are so happy we discovered how much we love photography and videography. It has helped bring out the creative sides that we never knew we had. From Orlando to Pennsylvania to cruises to international destinations, we are creating memories that last a lifetime for all of you!
