Intimate Backyard Wedding in Vineland, New Jersey | Joelle & Michael

Intimate backyard wedding ceremony in Vineland, NJ.

Some weddings stand out not because of scale, but because of intention. Joelle and Michael’s intimate backyard wedding in Vineland, New Jersey was thoughtfully designed around connection, comfort, and the people who matter most. As a husband-and-wife photography and videography team who travels regularly throughout the East Coast, we are drawn to celebrations like this, weddings that feel deeply personal and true to the couple’s story.

Hosted at Michael’s parents’ home just outside of Philadelphia, this day felt warm, relaxed, and beautifully intentional from beginning to end.

Getting Ready with Their Closest Friends

Joelle and Michael each spent the morning getting ready alongside their bridal party, close friends who felt more like family. These early moments set the tone for the day, filled with laughter, calm anticipation, and a shared excitement for what was ahead.

Rather than rushing through the morning, the pace allowed space to be present, making the transition into the rest of the day feel natural and unforced.

A First Look and Private Vows at Home

Before guests arrived, Joelle and Michael chose to share a first look and private vows together. In the quiet of the backyard, away from the noise of the celebration to come, they exchanged words meant only for each other.

These moments are often some of the most meaningful of the entire wedding day, unfiltered, emotional, and deeply personal. It was a powerful way to ground the day before welcoming their guests.

A Ceremony Centered on Family and Connection

The ceremony itself was intentionally small, attended only by immediate family and closest friends. Joelle and Michael exchanged traditional marriage vows, surrounded by the people who have walked alongside them through life.

This intimate backyard wedding at a parents’ home allowed the ceremony to feel less like a performance and more like a shared experience, exactly as they envisioned.

Portraits Before the Celebration Began

Following the ceremony, we captured family, bridal party, and couple portraits while the space transitioned for the reception. Photographing portraits at home created a relaxed atmosphere and allowed everything to flow seamlessly. Our couple also chose to step away from the dance floor in the evening for a few additional portraits.

A Backyard Reception Designed for Celebration

As cocktail hour began, additional reception guests arrived and the backyard transformed into an elegant celebration space. A beautifully styled tent accommodated the evening festivities, blending sophistication with the comfort of a familiar setting.

One standout detail was the couple’s cocktail bar, featuring β€œhis and hers” beverages, an easy, personal way to welcome guests. The charcuterie display quickly became a favorite, lovingly referred to as the β€œSean Connery” board after the groom’s mother’s pronunciation, complete with a playful cutout that had everyone laughing.

Dancing, Food Trucks, and a Surprise Haircut

The reception unfolded just as Joelle and Michael hopedβ€”joyful, relaxed, and full of personality. They shared their first dance, cut their cake, enjoyed dinner from a food truck, and spent the night dancing with their guests.

In true non-traditional fashion, Joelle surprised everyone by sneaking away mid-reception to cut her hair. She returned to the dance floor with a fresh look and an outfit change, fully embracing the celebratory spirit of the night.

The Perfect Irish Goodbye

As the evening wound down, Joelle and Michael opted for a quiet Irish goodbye, slipping into an Uber and heading to their hotel while the party continued. It was the perfect ending to a day that never tried to be anything other than what it was: meaningful, joyful, and unapologetically theirs.
